Digest of 30 October 2023 School Board Meeting
Hello, Sewickley Stream Subscribers!
There was a school board meeting last week and we want to tell you what happened.
Before I turn to the meeting, though, I want to exercise my editorial discretion to encourage you to vote for Walls, Webster, Floro, and Rosselli.
On the school board front, I just want a new high school for my kids. I am not persuaded that the opposing candidates have any legitimate interest in a new building. Look, they’re not the first people in the world who don’t want their taxes to go up—there’s nothing un-American about that. But let’s just tell it like it is and admit that they don’t want to build a new school because they don’t want to pay taxes. I am annoyed that this group—led in court by one of the opposing candidates—has caused delays that will cost my older daughter any time in the new building. When those of us in favor of the school say “it’s time to build,” we don’t mean “it’s time to go get new designs and approvals for a whole new site” … we mean it’s time to build—as in BREAK GROUND! Vote Walls, Webster, and Floro to support the current plan to build.
For magistrate, I’ve got to endorse the lawyer. I can’t tell you how much time I’ve spent in magisterial district courts. They are a critical part of the criminal justice system in Pennsylvania. They are also a breeding ground for injustice if poorly led. Why would you hire somebody who’s not a doctor to do surgery on you? Would you trust somebody who wasn’t an electrician to install your new breaker panel? Who on earth would EAGERLY take off with a pilot who has never landed a plane? WHY WOULD YOU WANT A JUDGE WHO HASN’T BEEN TRAINED IN THE LAW? Vote Rosselli to elect a career courtroom lawyer.
OK end-editorialization. But before we get to the digest, one final programming note. You will notice that the format is different, which means we again had a guest videographer because I was not available. I want to thank our shooter, but I ALSO want all of YOU to know where your subscription dollars are going. THIS is what you’re paying for. I wish I could make it be free, but there ARE costs and YOU are paying the way. Thank you!
OK. Here’s what happened:
